What is the Mystery Cafe? How about ComedySportz?

Our interactive comedy dinner theater shows are a GREAT way to spend a unforgettable night with friends! It’s time to forget about the economy blues and do something different!

Join us for a gut-busting mysterious comedy, drinks and a delicious three-course gourmet dinner! Our productions are held at wonderful locations including the Elephant & Castle and Riccardo’s in the North End. You will enjoy the interactive atmosphere of these. Guest are seated at banquet table in full linen dress.

The comedy play is performed in four separate 10 to 30 minute scenes. These scenes are performed “environmentally” – that is, the action occurs throughout the theater, as opposed to at just one end.

At some point in the show a major crime is committed (usually a murder, but not always) and the audience gets to try and figure out Whodunit. Guests are given a “Clue Packet” and fake bribe money to ask the actors questions between scenes.

ComedySportz is new to Boston but almost 30 years old.  It is comedy played as a sport, not sports comedy and is brought to you by the producers of Mystery Cafe.  This is not a murder mystery but a family-friendly, improv comedy and we thought our Mystery Cafe audience would enjoy the show as well.

Where are your shows located and what’s playing?

Mobfellas is performed at Riccardo’s on North Street in Boston’s North End on select Fridays.

Murder Most Medieval is performed at the Elephant & Castle on Devonshire Street in Boston’s Financial District every Saturday night.

Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead is performed at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem and the Holiday Inn in Peabody on select Friday and Saturday nights every fall.

ComedySportz is not a murder mystery, it is a family-friendly improv comedy by the producers of Mystery Cafe and is currently being performed most Saturday nights at the Davis Square Theater in Somerville.

We're celebrating a birthday/anniversary/bachelorette/divorce, can you help us do something special?

We do have a normal segment during our shows where we recognize anyone celebrating a special event. However, if you would like to do something extra special for your celebrant we do have what we call a Crossfire package and you can get more information here.

Is there a dress code?

There is no required dress code at our shows. We call our suggested attire “Nice Casual” and believe that the most important thing is for you to be comfortable. Costumes, of course, are always welcome!

Do you serve liquor?

Yes. We have a full bar, and cocktail service throughout the evening. However, drinks are not included in the ticket price.

What will I be eating?

Each venue has a different menu tailored to the show and the restaurant.  There are often choices in entrees and dietary restrictions can be accommodated if you let us know in advance.  We have a new less expensive children’s menu for our guests 12 and under.

Do I choose my entree ahead of time?

Yes! When purchasing tickets online or by phone, you will be asked to choose an entree for each member of your party. If you do not know what you or other members of your party would like, you may choose “Undecided” and we will give you a call at the number you provide during purchase to confirm your meal choices before the show.

Is this show appropriate for children?

That might be the toughest question we get, as everyone has different ideas about what’s okay for kids. For that matter, everyone has a different idea of what a “kid” is. If our shows were movies they would be rated PG-13.  The shows are written and performed to have broad appeal, and they are comedies. We know comedy is subjective, but we have always stayed away from the “easy” comedy that is insulting or vulgar just for the sake of shock. Our Haunted Dinner Theater and ComedySportz Boston shows are designed to be especially family-friendly and are appropriate for kids of all ages. If you are bringing children younger than 12, we have discounted children’s ticket prices with accompanying children’s menu choices available for our shows at the Elephant & Castle, the Hawthorne Hotel and the Holiday Inn.

Do you do shows off-site?

Yes we do! We have done hundreds of shows all over New England and beyond and can adapt almost any show to fit your needs.
